The 2010 Baseball Preview

April 1, 2010

I know it’s not exactly a matter of safety but it is a SafetyXChange tradition. I’m talking, of course, about the annual Major League Baseball preview.

As a Mets’ fan, no teams are more despicable to me than the Yankees and Phillies. So seeing those 2 teams square off in the World Series last year was an existential nightmare. What makes my mood even darker is that while my beloved Metsies continue to struggle with injuries, the Yanks and Phils made significant offseason improvements and are on a clear course for a rematch. Anything but that!

Maybe the only good thing about the 2009 season was that I correctly predicted 5 of 6 division winners — Yankees, Twins, Angels, Cards and Dodgers. The only one I missed was, you guessed it — Philadelphia. But I’ll take 5 of 6 any time. Let’s see if I can continue the momentum with this year’s picks.

NL EAST

Phillies
Braves
Marlins
Mets
Nationals

 NL CENTRAL

Cardinals
Cubs
Brewers
Reds
Astros
Pirates

NL WEST

Dodgers
Rockies
Giants
Diamondbacks
Padres

NL Wildcard: Braves

AL EAST

Yankees
Rays
Red Sox
Blue Jays
Orioles

AL CENTRAL

Twins
Tigers
White Sox
Royals
Indians

AL WEST

Angels
Mariners
Rangers
Athletics

AL Wildcard: Rays

The theme: All of 2009 division winners will repeat — although the Wild Cards will be different.

As for the World Series, going with my head rather than my heart, I see Yankees over Phillies. Again. May the heavens prove me wrong.  And let’s go Mets!

Probably nailed it (might change the Cubs/Cardinals), but other than that - great predictions. I agonize right along with you, as an A's lifetime fan, I long for the days of the Bando's, Rudi's, Jacksons, and Hunters ...It will be a "Blue Moon" (Odom) before they come around again. For you, it is the Matlack's, Seaver's, Harrelson's, Staub's, and Grote's. We commiserate....

As a Phillies fan, here's hoping they make it three in a row and win it again this year!
