True Stories Safety Trainers Would Rather Forget

June 17, 2009

I walked into a Calgary clients’ maintenance shop for a “chat” with the guys. Several of the staff recently had participated in a confined space training program and were quick to point out that they had followed my advice and purchased a gas detection meter. They wondered if it would work. They had not however bought a cal gas kit. I grabbed a propane torch from off the bench intending to give the meter a sniff of propane. It was a new auto start model and when I pushed the button I melted the LEL cell. Profits were a little skimpy that day! That client is still one of my best and yes, they rub it in well!
