National Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day

October 14, 2009

Editor’s Note: This email was received in response to last week’s short article on National Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day.

Catherine,

It is interesting that they have chosen this particular date for auto fatalities.

October 10, 2005 my niece and grand nephew were killed by a chronic speeder, a 26 year old with a driving history of over 60 moving violations in his 10 year reign of terror as a licensed driver before killing himself in the accident that killed my family. At the time of the accident he was driving on a ticket again and was scheduled for another hearing the next day.

Too many people are so focused on impaired driving and not enough on excessive speed; we need to level the coverage.

Laws have been changed in the State of Illinois regarding “supervision” and license revocation for speeders due to Nicole and Devin Westerhoff’s deaths.

Please check out our web site www.Faces4.org which resulted from this incident.
