PART 2: WHAT EMPLOYEES MUST UNDERSTAND ABOUT TAGOUT
Instructions: OSHA requires us to conduct an annual inspection of energy control programs that includes a review of tagout with all authorized and affected employees and verifies their understanding of tagout requirements. The purpose of the following Checklist is to ensure that we include the appropriate issues in that review.
Tagout training must make it clear that:
Tags are merely warning devices and do not physically bar start-up of the equipment the way lockout does.
Tags attached to a piece of equipment may not be removed without authorization by a designated employee.
Tags may not be ignored.
Tags must be legible and clearly written.
Tags and their attachments must be able to withstand the environmental conditions to which they are exposed.
Tags must be securely attached to equipment so they don't accidentally become detached during servicing.
