Topic: CREATIVE SAFETY PRESENTATIONS

A Call for Ideas

October 22, 2009

Safety professionals have no creativity.

I hear that a lot, especially during my Spice It Up! talk when I ask the audience for creative ways to connect themes that aren’t normally connected, e.g., cockroaches to symbolize boring safety meetings or fishing as a metaphor for bloodborne pathogen dangers. And, of course, most of the folks who tell me safety professionals aren’t creative don’t come up with any creative ideas.

One of the keys to creativity is to believe in your own ability to create. You can be creative. We all can be—even those folks at safety meetings who tell me safety professionals can’t be creative and then can’t exhibit any creativity of their own. You just have to let your mind open up.

I humbly submit that yours truly represents an example of a creative safety professional. And it’s not just me. My newly published book, 250 Super Bright Safety Meeting and Promotion Ideas, is made up entirely of ideas that subscribers to my “Safety Stuff” e-zine contributed.

My contributors come from all types of industries and technical backgrounds. And I’d love to add your ideas to this growing body of safety presentation ideas. So if you have a cool idea, please send it to me at richard@richardhawkinc.com. Or if you’re going to the National Safety Council’s Expo and Congress next week, look me up and give me your idea in person. I’ll be hosting two sessions at the Congress. Hope to see you there.

Love the watermelon eyes. Great way to show what dangers are there with real example.
