Security and Life Safety Manager

Direct Report: Facility Manager

Responsibilities

The Security and Life Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall provision of security services by our third party contractor, ensuring that these services are conducted in a professional and efficient manner in providing protective services to all the assets of the site, both personal and property, minimizing any potential disruption or damage to the Client’s operations and assets and the overall management of the maintenance of various life safety systems.

The Site Manager will be specifically responsible for the following tasks:

Coordination of all physical security and reception requirements for the Toronto Broadcast Centre in accordance with all security requirements and procedures as determined by the contract requirements, including the site’s Standing Orders

Interface with facility management, Client employees, visitors, contractors and the general public regarding the security of all site assets

Coordinate all security activities including but not limited to, adherence to Standing Orders; security operations manuals, emergency response manual, security related applications and equipment, investigations, log files, shift reports, contact data, badge creation and administration, lock and key control, activity and special occurrence reports, parcel passes, parking and traffic control and any other applicable security duties determined by the Standing Orders

Recommendation of amendments to the Standing Orders, through the facility manager and Contractor account manger

Focus on quality initiatives, customer satisfaction, quality improvement strategies and development and implementation of new or more effective processes; as well as recommendations to management on security objectives, equipment and procedures

Maintain all security and life safety related equipment/devices and act as a liaison with security and life safety suppliers/contractors to ensure all equipment is 100% operational

Investigate, document and report all security related incidents

Management of all security services provided on site including but not limited to, directives, work schedules, functions, routines and activities

Responsible for ensuring proper levels of staffing and training is conducted for each contracted employee

Responsible for identifying any requirements for: discipline, performance reviews, labour union issues and any other personnel matters specific to the site to the contractor account manager

Responsible for ensuring that all contracted persons on site have received a formalized training certification processes to ensure all personnel can effectively operate the site’s equipment and respond appropriately to alarms, emergency and physical procedures

Encourage and promote site security practices through letters, notes, bulletins, posters, discussions and meetings as required

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Graduated from or active enrolment in an approved, post-secondary Security Management programme or two(2) years prior senior security officer experience and associated qualifications,

Energetic, assertive, diplomatic

Service oriented

Strong interpersonal skills

Strong communication skills in the language of operation, verbal and written

Self starter, demonstrates initiative

Effective management and presentation skills

Able to effectively deal with stressful situations

Strong negotiating skills

Technical knowledge of site security and life safety systems equipment/equipment

Strong administrative and computer skills

Must be able to generate alternate solutions to problems by considering related effects and constraints

Must maintain continuous updating of security skills, technical knowledge, security trends and innovations and job progression training.
