The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will possess two years of experience in a safety-related role, complemented by formal education in the field (such as the University of Alberta's OH&S certificate program). She or he will also have experience in a manufacturing environment.

 

Job Description:

The Safety Technician assists the Safety Manager and Lead Safety Technician in developing and implementing company safety programs, carrying out the program, and promoting safety in the workplace.

 

Responsibilities

•Participates in and/or conducts accident investigations;

•Conducts inspections and audits of worksite operations;

•Coordinates reporting on WCB claims;

•Complies, analyzes, interprets and distributes statistical information;

•Actively participates in the WCB Claims Management Program;

•Maintains contact with various governmental agencies to ensure compliance with occupational health & safety, environmental and WCB regulations;

•Communicates information regarding loss control and accident prevention;

•Assists in the development of safety polices, procedures, training programs and methods;

•Assists in Emergency Response Plan updates and table top exercises.

Requirements •Minimum of two years in the safety field;

•Practical knowledge of the manufacturing operation and process an asset;

•Completion of a post-secondary occupational health and safety certificate program would be a valuable asset;

•Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) would be an asset;

•Strong written and verbal communications skills;

•Ability to interact with employees on all levels;

•Strong problem solving, investigative and analytical skills;

•Ability to adopt a proactive approach towards incident prevention;

•Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for Windows.
