Safety Manager
Terus Construction Ltd., a leader in the construction industry in British Columbia, the Yukon Territory and part of the Colas Group of Companies, is seeking, a Safety Manager based in either our Surrey or Prince George office.
Reporting to the President, the candidate will be responsible for establishing, managing and maintaining the company wide safety program through out the province. The candidate must be prepared for lengthy road trips and to travel extensively (50%) throughout British Columbia and the Yukon Territory.
Duties/Tasks
- Oversee the management of all company Safety Programs
- Organize and coordinate a formal safety and environment programs appropriate to the operation and the private contractors employed by the company
- Develop and coordinate training programs, safety and environmental policy and procedures
- Provide direction and support to the 4 Regional Safety Supervisors ( BC South, DGS, YCS & Yukon)
- Ensure that all company and government safety rules and regulations are enforced
- Monitor operations for compliance with all applicable health, safety and environment legislation and make recommendations to improve compliance standards
- Advise Management in each operation of continuous improvement in health, safety and environment standards by a combination of leadership and communication
- Conduct worksite visits of jobs sites to ensure workers, supervisors and foremen are following the safety program policies and WCB procedures for the job at hand.
- Review statistics and report to President
- Review and sign accident investigation reports for all lost time accidents and ensure corrective action recommendations are promptly completed
- Manage all WCB requirements
- Review internal and external safety audits
- Demonstrate leadership and teamwork in our safety committee to promote due diligence to all safety, health and environmental issues
- Maintain liaison with Colas Inc. in regards to Safety
Knowledge/Skills
- Computer Literate
- Knowledge of process procedures and WCB regulation
- Excellent communication skills (Oral and Written)
- Team Player
Experience/Education
- Four year College or University Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experience
- Minimum 10 years experience as a Safety Officer
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Heavy Construction Industry
- Experience in managing and supervising personnel
