Safety Manager

This position will administer and maintain all regulatory and Company safety and health programs to provide a safe working environment. This is a hands-on position with 80% of time spent in the field. The Safety Manager is responsible for the execution and oversight of the Project Safety Program including the implementation of site safety policies and procedures. The Safety Manager will report to the Project Safety Manager.

  • Provide necessary training to employees in accordance with OH&S regulations and Company policies.
  • Provide feedback to management relative to job site compliance.
  • Conduct Safety Inspections and audits.
  • Observe personnel and operations for possible safety concerns and correct deficient items immediately.
  • Assists in accident and injury investigations.
  • Communicates with Project Management regarding compliance and safety.
  • Conducting training, new hire orientation and Safety Meetings.
  • Maintain safety related records.
  • Assist with the development of injury prevention programs.
  • Conduct hygiene related sampling and result interpretation.

Qualifications

  • A degree required in Occupational Safety & Health (or 5 years Field Experience), certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician is also desired.
  • 5 years experience in a construction safety environment.
  • Completed NCSO or Equivalent.
  • Knowledge of current Provincial, Federal and OH&S requirements for construction safety.
  • Must be able to demonstrate industrial hygiene sampling protocols as related to construction and be knowledgeable in the interpretation of the sample results.
  • Must know how to sample for silica exposure, sample for confined spaces and be able to sample for decibel exposures.
  • Must also have the ability to operate a standard personal computer as well as knowledge of and experience with standard office computer software.
  • Capable of instructing in confined space, fall protection, WHMIS, hot work.
  • Fully understand Permit programs and Permit to work systems.
