Safety Coordinator Senior

Job Description

Applies extensive knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and industry practices and standards in the area of managing and promoting the corporate safety program in compliance with OSHA regulations.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Develops solutions to a variety of complex problems requiring independent judgment and ingenuity to modify standards and procedures relative to managing and promoting the corporate safety program in compliance with OSHA regulations. Management applies general guidance related to resolution of complex problems and outcome.

Defines the need and develops systems specifications and programming and installs databases of pertinent information for use in developing safety related plan, programs and training.

Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions in industrial or other setting to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations. Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices.

Designs and develops safety policies, practices, and procedures to reduce the frequency of work related accidents and injuries with emphasis on aggressive prevention efforts. Evaluates results of safety program and makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements.

Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing. Develops training programs and trains Stakeholders in accident prevention techniques and skills.

Oversees the collection, distribution, and communication of educational material and information pertaining to the storing, handling, and disposing of hazardous materials.

Coordinates with government agencies for inspections by meeting with agency representatives and developing programs that comply with government standards.

Inspects specified areas for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies. Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action.

Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing
complaints, resolving problems and leading projects as assigned.

Ancillary Job Functions and Responsibilities:
This position may provide administrative and technical leadership over other Stakeholders in the department. Perform other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
SAFETY COORDINATOR SENIOR

Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:
Bachelor degree in Safety Sciences or other appropriate discipline from an accredited four-year college or university and five (5) years related experience and/or training. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Stakeholder Behavioral Standards:
All Stakeholders: Integrity, Teamwork, Communications, Customer Focus, Initiative and willingness to assist and transfer technical knowledge to less experienced Stakeholders.

Level of Supervision Required:
Works under general direction. Receives guidance as to results expected and to resolve complex problems. Exercises latitude in determining activities and approaches within moderate to wide parameters.

Standard Job Requirements:
• Must be able to read and write the English language, perform basic mathematical calculations and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
• Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel and operate standard office equipment.
• Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups.
• May perform work of lesser skilled employees.

• Safety training applicable to the job and the general work area.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. The Stakeholder frequently is required to move from one place to another and reach with hands and arms. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Travel between facilities. Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. NRD: Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the stakeholder is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Mental Requirements:
Able to work as a team member, highly organized, work well under stress and handle multiple priorities. Must possess interpersonal and communication skills to interact with other people inside and outside the company.

Travel up to 10% will be a requirement for this position.

Must be required to work overtime as required.
