Risk and Patient Safety Manager
KNOWLEDGE:
Academic preparation in a health care discipline; with appropriate licensure or registration in professional specialty. Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing desired.
SKILLS:
- Demonstrated leadership and / or managerial skills
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of personal computer software, i.e. word-processing, calendar and email management, spreadsheet, and database management.
- Aptitude for teaching and facilitating group projects required;
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years clinical experience in an acute inpatient care setting with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise which promotes the credibility required for position.
- Experience in risk management, professional liability claims management, performance improvement or related field preferred.
- Experience in teaching desired.
LICENSE:
Appropriate licensure or registration in professional specialty if required
DEFINITION:
The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Director of Risk Management in the day to day coordination and management of the Risk Management and Patient Safety programs. Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating and investigating claims or potential claims by conducting thorough investigations of incidents in collaboration with hospital Directors/Managers to improve patient safety, protect insurance program assets and to improve customer satisfaction. Performs a wide variety of complex duties including day to day supervision of the patient satisfaction survey team, serving as a team facilitator for patient safety improvement projects to design and implement improvement strategies, assuring the appropriate and timely handling of patient grievances, as well as, database management, report generation and analysis.
