Health and Safety Specialist

The Health and Safety Specialist will be responsible for the effective development, coordination and delivery of systematic health and safety programs and initiatives for EastLink throughout the Atlantic Provinces.

Responsibilities

· Development of new Occupational Health and Safety policies & programs with key stakeholders including the JOHS committee

· Review & update, as required, existing OH&S policies, programs and procedures/JSAs in consolation with key stakeholders and the JOHS committee

· Develop, conduct, and evaluate new and ongoing Health and Safety Training and Promotion Initiatives that meet/exceed regulatory minimums

· Conduct ergonomic evaluations and recommend modifications/improvements as needed to reduce musculoskeletal related injuries

· Coordinate and Facilitate cooperative early return to work programs

· Provide ongoing support as required to line management in the effective execution of OH&S programs and initiatives

· Review, monitor and evaluate Contractor Safety Programs and provide ongoing OH&S support to PM’s and contractor relation managers

· Maintain OH&S training data base

· External reporting to HRSDC & WCB

· Data management of safety performance measures

Qualifications:

· Bachelor/Masters of Science in Health and Safety, Kinesiology, Engineering, Human Resources or related health field

· 2-3 years experience working in Health and Safety capacity would be an asset

· Federally regulated workplace experience an asset

· Experience developing and facilitating OH&S training programs

· Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation an asset

· Strong conflict management skills

· Ability to build strong relationships with EastLink employees

· Strong project management skills

· Effective communicator – both verbal and written

· Self motivated, creative, individual who can adapt to independent and team based environments

· Strategic thinker and effective decision maker
