Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Scope & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate safety and health compliance: ensure compliance with OSHA regulations; coordinate employee training in fire extinguishing, confined space, hazardous materials including asbestos, lock out/tag out procedures, CPR and first aid training
  • Administer environmental protection and compliance: Ensure facilities comply with governmental regulations that include, a) Title V, air emissions inventory, clean air markets (EDR) submittals; standard emission reporting,b) Continuous emission monitoring knowledge (GE power systems); c) Asbestos abatement and air sampling; d) SARA Title III; e) CERCLA; f) Interface with US Coast Guard and other governmental agencies·Support EHS program for the site to ensure the safety and compliance with local, state and federal regulations

Required Skills, Knowledge, & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 - 5 years' EHS experience; preferably in the Energy & Utility industry or EHS Specialist in utility or manufacturing plant environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other laws that impact the EHS area
  • Must hold a valid driver license with a satisfactory driving record to maintain minimum company required insurance coverage
  • Ability to tolerate confined spaces, tolerate heights, lift heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs with the capacity of lifting 50 pounds
