JOB STATEMENT:
Responsible for Health Safety and Environmental issues within MCT. Specializing in formulating and executing the country’s occupational HSE program. Ensures the HSE performances of our operations complies with local and Metso standards through proactive implementation of systems, education and training of personnel. Provides HSE guidance/recommendations/advice/support to managers and employees.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Establish a HSE program within the country’s business lines and units.
• Work with the country’s management to ensure that all our local and customer safety requirements are reached.
• Understand customer requirements and is able to offer solutions which produce the most appropriate result for the customer and Metso.
• Help customers understand current issues and needs and keep them abreast of current policies and programs. Maintain positive customer relations.
• Ensure full compliance with current legislation affecting safety, health and the environment.
• Investigate, report, follow up and maintain all necessary paperwork for all accidents/incidents.
• Design and implement appropriate preventative procedures to minimize risk to all employees.
• Enusures compliance with HSE standards and updating of procedures.
• Creates and maintains policies and procedures, in some cases using the support of specialists.
• Conducts regular internal audits.
• Updates the emergency plan and prepare regular safety exercises.
• Regularly evaluates contractors and suppliers from the point of view of safety, health and the environment.
• Analyses operational risks prior to work commencing.
• Analyses all accidents and incidents to work towards a zero accident target.
• Manages permits to work, non-compliances, statistics and safety indications.
• Performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field.
• Minimum 10 years management experience in safety, engineering or large machinery related industry preferred.
• Minimun 10 years experience with HSE work within the mining industry preferred.
• Good knowledge of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
• Proven ability to develop and execute successful HSE strategies.
• Knowledge of HSE development and trends.
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively express ideas in individual or group situations (including non-verbal communication) and fully able to adjust to the needs and characteristics of the audience.
• Good understanding of written and verbal English language.
• A good level of computer skills is essential – Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Requires the ability to stand, walk, climb and/or utilize a sense of balance. Climbing of stairs, ladders, scaffolds may be required at customer facilities.
• Ability to travel extensively 30-40%.
