Thinking About the Passengers and Crew
Editor’s Note: Christina Marshall is the SafetyXChange member who introduced us all to the SGB video. She sent me this note last Thursday, which expresses what I suspect we’re all feeling. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of those who were on the helicopter.
Good Morning Catherine
It certainly seems as though the video link I sent in had the impact I thought it might. Thank you for tracking down the purchasing location. I have forwarded it along to my clients.
On a much sadder note, today marks day 2 of the search for the passengers and crew of the Cougar Helicopters flight that crashed off St. John's, NL yesterday morning.
We are grateful for the known survivor and his family. We mourn for the one confirmed fatality and their loved ones. We worry for the 16 people that remain lost. On February 15, 1982 we marked a tragic day in our province's history. That day we lost 84 crew of the Ocean Ranger oil rig drilling off our shores. Since that event, the oil industry has been committed to bringing home safely all those that work offshore and those that support them. Today is a sad day for occupational health and safety, a sad day for our province but also a day that reminds us that we can never take for granted the fragility of life. The work that we do as OHS practitioners is important. Every injury we prevent and every life that we save is a victory, but every loss is everyone's loss. Today we pray for the loved ones who face an unimaginable amount of stress, anxiety and worry.
