Topic: FACT OF THE DAY
Death on the Highway
November 25, 2008
In the past 50 years, more Canadians have died on the nation's roads than were killed in both world wars combined.
The source of this shocking fact is the Transportation Minister of the province of Prince Edward Island in a November 19 speech commemorating the country's first ever National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims.
Is the Minister exaggerating? Or have traffic deaths actually claimed more Canadian lives than the battlefields of World Wars I and II. If any of you have any information to support or debunk this statement, please let me know. glennd@bongarde.com.
