Inspections in Canada
Nick’s moral applies equally to Canadian employers: You should have somebody at your company follow the OHS inspector and take photos, notes and measurements.
There is one aspect of the story that doesn’t perfectly fit the Canadian context. Unlike in the U.S., all Canadian employers aren’t necessarily guaranteed the right to have one of their representatives accompany an inspector during an OHS inspection. Such rights vary from province to province. Here’s a partial rundown:
Employers & Employees Representative Mandatory:
- Federal
- New Brunswick
Employers & Employees Representative Allowed:
- British Columbia
- Nova Scotia
Employers Rep Mandatory & Employees Rep Allowed:
- Prince Edward Island
Employees Representative Allowed:
- Ontario
- Yukon
